The Art of Speed
Behind the Scenes - Pictures and Information
International Doc Challenge
A five day competition where teams around the world receive a topic and genre at eight in the morning on the first day and need to film, edit and produce a film before midnight on the fifth day.
Behind the Scenes
For five days our team spent every waking second together. For six strangers, we worked very well together and each brought different skills to the team. Over the course of the five days, we taught each other new skills and learned how to push each others buttons, very well. On first day of races, I spent most of my time learning how to shoot fast moving objects. This was extremely difficult because we were inside, no flashes could be used, and you had to keep the shutter speed up so the pictures did not blur. Other members of the team worked on capturing footage, taking countless pictures and setting up interviews. Due to the time frame, we were all kept very busy. Between the six of us, we were able to get a few clear pictures and some amazing footage. By the third day, I had begun to edit together the final movie. Over 32 hours of editing went into this film and everyone contributed something to the editing process. Thankfully the Post office in SeaTac is open until midnight. With all six of us piled in my five person car, we raced to the airport while saving a copy on DVD's and flash drives. Needless to say, we made it with only a few minutes to spare. Although our film did not make it to the final 12, it was a great experience and one that I would consider doing again next year.
